Still perfect

Despite a lackluster showing on offense, the Panthers (3-0) relied on their special teams to lead them to a 19-0 victory over the Dolphins and remained undefeated in preseason action. Rookie RB DeAngelo Williams provided a spark when he returned a kick 98 yards for a touchdown, and kicker John Kasay connected on four field goals, including one from 53 yards, enroute to the win.

LB Diggs Has Sprained Knee

Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Na'il Diggs sprained his right knee against the Miami Dolphins.

The injury was not as serious as first thought, the team said. He had an MRI test and is listed as day-to-day.

Diggs got tangled up with Miami defenders on the line of scrimmage during a punt in the first quarter of Carolina's 19-10 win over the Dolphins.

"I got tripped up on the line, and it got twisted up," said Diggs, who was on crutches and wearing a knee brace after the game. "I'm just going to take it day by day."

Smith Out For Final Camp Practice

Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith sat out the final practice of training camp due to his strained left hamstring.

Smith rode a stationary bike and did agility drills on the side of the field as the team practiced. He was injured on July 29, the first day of camp.

"It's day-to-day. It's the same it's been," coach John Fox said. "We'll evaluate it one day at a time."

Smith returned to practice last week, but sat out the 17-10 exhibition win against Jacksonville.

Fox wouldn't say if Smith, who led the NFL last season with 103 catches for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns, will play against Miami.

Tight end Kris Mangum also missed practice, but he did agility drills without a protective boot on his left foot. Mangum has been out since the beginning of camp with plantar fasciitis.
